Mission Statement
Silver Finch Arts Collective is a DC-based organization that provides a forum for artists of all types to collaborate across all genres of art. It strives to break down the barriers that people perceive between new art and the public by proving that new art can have a broad appeal without compromising the integrity of its message.
What does that mean?
The Silver Finch Arts Collective website is a tool to facilitate collaboration between artists, especially collaboration across genres. This will be done through artist profiles and a forum.
Profiles
Each artist that wants to collaborate with another Silver Finch artist can create a profile detailing their interests, skills, strengths, and whatever else they might want to share with potential collaborators. You can also browse existing profiles to find people who might fit the bill for your project idea.
The Forum
Project ideas can be discussed on the upcoming Forum. Let's say a playwright wrote a new play based on a tale from Indian folklore. Perhaps she could post her idea about producing that show. A choreographer gets involved because of his familiarity with traditional Indian dance. A composer is interested in writing new music for the play and the choreography. There you have it: an idea for a compelling evening of stage performances.
Through further discussions on the Forum, people might have ideas for venues, fundraising ideas, actors, dancer, or musicians who might be interested, etc. You're welcome to do as much planning as you want on the Forum, or you can exchange contact information and discuss things in another venue.
Producing
"Who is producing this show?" Well, technically, you are. If you'd like, though, we hope you'd acknowledge any help we provide you in any way you see fit. We would like as many people as possible to know about this organization. It will only improve the experience for other artists!
Silver Finch itself (at least for now) can't put up any money to help you with your production. Hopefully in the future we'll have the funds to produce things for ourselves. We're hoping, though, that someone in our group can help you find the money you need to put up your production.
Gurus
The goal is to set up a few experts or gurus for each discipline and facet of a production - one or more gurus for theater, musical theater, opera, dance, concert music, outreach, fundraising, etc. These gurus will have experience working in that specific discipline or field, and are here to provide you with advice along the way. If you're an expert in any field, let us know - we'd love to list you as a guru!
Production Blog
We would also like the community to know what you're doing. If you'd like, feel free to send us information about your production work and rehearsal process. We'll include it on our blog. Hopefully this can get an audience excited about your show before they even see it!
Collaborating with other companies
We would also love to collaborate with other companies. Is your opera company interested in pairing a one-act opera with a one act play? Is your production of a musical looking for a choreographer? Check us out here. We'd love to work with you!
We at Silver Finch hope that this type of thing could enrich the arts world in new and exciting ways.
